The Huawei Y9a 2020
AI Quad camera
Let us consider for a moment the primary camera setup of Huawei Y9a. In so doing we must first take note that the phone has five cameras.
Four on the back and one on the front. The three camera lenses on the back are what we refer to as the main camera. They are made up of a main 64 MP shooter, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a third 2MP depth-sensing lens.
Now, these Al cameras each perform their functions as their names suggest. But together they assist you in exploring the mysterious nature or recording your daily life through a simple snap.
You will be particularly impressed with the high resolution 64 MP, f/1.8, 26mm main lens which further enhances photos to be sharper and clearer. The y9a also comes with a 2 MP, f/2.4, depth-sensing camera lens. Present also is a 2MP depth-sensing lens.
There is no much information provided on the official product website on the motorized pop-up 16 MP, f/2.2, (wide), 1/3.1″, 1.Opm selfie camera of Huawei Y9a. But this you can count on for sure. 16 MP front-facing cameras on Huawei smartphones rarely (if at all they ever) disappoint.
Video recording with it is 1080p©30fps which is great for a front-facing camera. But this surely is not the case when it comes to the main camera. 4k@30fps video recording is the deal here unlike the 1080p@30fps (bummer) we saw on the Huawei y8p
Huawei Y9a’s performance
In Kenya, Huawei Y9a is available in two variants concerning internal storage and memory. These variants are 128GB with 6GB RAM and 128GB with 8GB RAM (UFS 2.1).
The phone is also powered by a Mediatek Helio G80 (12 nm) chipset and an Octa-core (2×2.0 GHz Cortex-A75 & 6×1.8 GHz Cortex-A55) CPU. By the way, there is a dedicated slot for the SD-6GB RAM and 128GB with 8GB RAM (UFS 2.1).
The phone is also powered by a Mediatek Helio G80 (12 nm) chipset and an Octa-core (2 x 2.0 GHz Cortex-A75 & 6×1.8 GHz Cortex-A55) CPU. By the way, there is a dedicated slot for the SD-card here in the event the internal storage limits you one way or the other. Finally, under the hood is a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU.
When you boot it up it will remind you that it is an Android 10 powered device then later on that it has EMUI 101. However, Huawei Y9a has no Google Play Services. What you do get is Huawei’s official app distribution platform to search, download, manage, and share mobile apps – HUAWEI AppGallery.
Also, on that storage infrastructure, the y9a boasts, most premium android devices run with UFS 21, it is still superb storage for mobile devices, the speed is fantastic; it is just suitable for mobile devices. Any device running with UFS 21 will offer better read/copy performance than another running on any eMMC storage version. Also, check out the Mate 20 Pro
One question everyone buying a Huawei smartphone wants to be answered is whether the model they are buying has Android. I think it is important we all know that as a platform, Android is very much present on Huawei smartphones even Huawei y9a.
What this phone does not have is G-APPS which the likes of Play-store have been replaced with Huawei AppGallery. You can use this App Gallery to search, download, install manage, and share your favorite user applications and games.
